Mrs. Patricia Hanley
St. Georges

PROFILE OF PATRICIA HANLEY

Patricia Hanley, affectionately known to family, friends and neighbours as 'Patsy', is proud to call Gingerland her home. She is a true product of Gingerland.  She was born in the Gingerland area and completed most of her early education there. Primary School for Patricia was completed at the Gingerland Infant and Junior Schools. Her Secondary Education was obtained at the Gingerland Senior School and later the Charlestown Secondary. When Patricia set her mind to choosing a profession, she knew it would be something that allowed her to help the people of Nevis. She chose Nursing.

In 1973 Mrs. Hanley entered the Nursing professing and for the next 30 years she laboured in that profession with a singular and selfless dedication to serve the people of St. Kitts and Nevis most of which was done at the Alexandra Hospital. In 1993 she was appointed to the position of Ward Sister and shortly thereafter she transferred to Community Health to work within the districts. For quite some time she almost appeared as a permanent figure at the Gingerland Health Centre, where she served until her retirement early in 2005.

Patricia is a committed Christian. She has been actively involved at all levels in her local church. She believes that Godly women have a responsibility to offer themselves to the service of others in all areas of life. She makes no distinction when it comes to service to her country. She is convicted that she can make a difference by addressing issues aimed at strengthening the moral fabric of society. As a member of Gingerland Secondary School Prayer Group, and a catalyst in its formation, she has a special place in her prayers for the youth of our island.

Mrs. Hanley is not afraid of challenges. She passionately engages every one that presents itself to her. She has been an avid sports enthusiast participating in Netball and Cricket over the years. She is a respected member of the Nevis Women's Cricket team and continues to lobby for the revival of women's cricket in Nevis. As a health conscious Nurse, she still believes that exercise is essential for wellness particularly among women.

Mrs. Hanley is a hardworking farmer and she considers agriculture to be a vital component in a self-sufficient Nevis. She fondly remembers when the agricultural products moved from our pier to St. Kitts instead of the reverse situation we are currently plagued with. She looks forward anxiously to hearing Gingerland once again being referred to as the 'bread basket' of the Federation...that is why even as a professional woman she farmed. She does not believe in seeing good agricultural soil lying bare and plants whenever she can. When she has excess crops, she is happy to share them with family and friends. This is the essence of this very special individual--She kind and loving, soft when she needs to be, and strong when the situation calls for strength.

In her personal life, Patricia is married to Zenric and together they have three children.

"Someone asked the other day why I decided to enter this area of service to my country. They insisted that they did not want a 'newspaper' answer but an honest one...well here is the real answer.  I believe that the people of Gingerland no longer want to feel "left out" in their own country. They want real representation. They want a representative that does more than drive through there occasionally. I will be that person. If you live and work in a community all your life you get to know everyone...you get a sense of their needs and wants. I believe the people of Gingerland (St. Georges) are ready to see a change in leadership... some even with their current political leanings feel that change is good for the country at this time. I look forward to that change. I look forward to serving my country and my home town with the same passion I served them as their District Nurse. They know me, as I know them. They know that I love Gingerland and that I have their very best interest at heart. Citizens of Nevis and particularly residents of St. Georges, I am not trying to cater to myself in this race. I appreciate very well that ultimately, the outcome of this will be about you, I humbly appeal to YOU for your support in this very important election."
