1. When NRP assumed office, the roof at the Ivor Walters Primary School, formerly the Prospect Primary School was infested with asbestos for years. Despite the frequent complaints of the teachers, students and parents, the previous administration did nothing. Under the NRP the students relocated to the Prospect Community and the roof was promptly replaced thus relieving the students of the dangers of Asbestos.
2. When the NRP assumed office, the situation at the Nevis Solid Waste Management Landfill was deplorable. The Landfill attendants were constantly attacked by flies even in their office as the windows needed fixing and the air-conditioning unit was simply not functioning. Within months of assuming office the NRP fixed the windows and got the air-conditioning unit restored so that the female landfill attendants could work in sanitary conditions.
3. When the NRP took office it took the progressive step to introduce the Home Work Assistance Program where trained teachers were paid to teach students in various homework centers across Nevis. More than 350 children have benefitted from this program. The parents across Nevis have been ever grateful to the NRP led NIA who have now seen dramatic improvements in their children. ACTION!
4. The NRP introduced free text books for students in the high schools making it easier for every child to have a quality education. Thats ACTION!
5. The NRP led Administration sent 16 young men and one young woman to Trinidad for a three month course with Metal Industries Company (MIC). These Nevisian youths were exposed to a host of programs including electrical engineering, plumbing, carpentry, mechanical engineering among other things. More ACTION!
6. The NRP resurfaced roads at Bath Village, Cotton Ground, Rawlins, Brown Hill, Ramsbury, Hamilton, Westbury, Jessups, Mount Lily, Bath Plain and Garricks Pasture among other roads.
7. When the NRP assumed office water provision was sporadic especially in times of drought. Areas like Barnes Ghuat, Hamilton and others were most severely affected. Since assuming office the NRP put the issue out to tender and now has over 1 million new gallons of water so that Nevisians now have water even in times of drought.
8. The NRP since assuming office has been responsible for reducing the price of land for first time owners. Nevisians now have the opportunity to get land for 40% less than under the previous administration.
9. The NRP provided duty free concessions for over 50 local small and thriving businesses which provided an increased economic activity which resulted in government’s improved revenue.
10. Mr. Parry initiated weekly one on one meetings every Wednesday morning where the general public of Nevis has an opportunity to interact with the Premier. Many people have attended these meetings and come away with their problems addressed. This is in keeping with the NRP’s pledge to be a government that is accessible to all the people. Nowhere else in any country does the leader make time weekly to have one on one consultations with anyone who chooses to meet with him.
